The "Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Process Control Technology" is a construction project of the first batch of key laboratories approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2009. Undertaken by the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, it was jointly established by the Research Center for Quality Standards of Chinese Medicine, the Research Center for Chinese Medicinal Preparations, and the Research Center for Processing of Chinese Medicine. Dr. Wang Zhimin serves as the director of the Key Laboratory. After three years of development, the laboratory successfully passed the acceptance inspection by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2012, becoming one of the first to do so.
Key Research Directions: 1 - Chemical Basis and Quality Standards of Chinese Medicine Efficacy; 2 - Processing Techniques, Process Control, and Quality Standards of Chinese Medicines; 3 - Production and Quality Standards of Chinese Medicine Formulations.
During the construction period from 2009 to 2012, the Key Research Laboratory undertook 18 national-level projects with a total funding of 3792 million CNY; developed 1 new methods, 12 novel traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) production processes, and 3 new pieces of equipment; published 270 scientific papers, including 28 indexed in SCI with a maximum impact factor of 10.178; authored 1 monographs; filed 18 invention patent applications and obtained authorization for 3 patents; formulated and completed 50 national standards and received {14] provincial/ministry-level science and technology awards.
During the post-construction phase from 2013 to 2016, the key laboratory undertook 84 national-level projects with a total funding of 20590 million yuan and provided horizontal services worth over 3000 million yuan. It published 402 scientific papers, including 132 in SCI journals, and released 17 monographs, of which 2 were in English. The lab applied for 14 national invention patents, obtained authorization for 15 patents, completed 8 national standards, and received {12] provincial and ministerial science and technology awards.
In 2017, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine conducted a phased assessment of the 128 key research laboratories that had completed their construction period of 3 years. Of these, 120 units passed the assessment: 9 were rated excellent and 111 were rated qualified. The "Key Research Laboratory on Process Control Technology for Traditional Chinese Medicine" was rated excellent and ranked 3.
